Distribution: Tropical West, Central and East Africa.

Timber Qualities: Heartwood is light to deep reddish-brown. Grain is straight to interlocked with a moderately coarse texture. Has a moderate blunting effect on tools and the interlocking grain may cause wooliness. Nailing, screwing and gluing properties are good and it may stain and polish to an excellent finish.

Uses: Widely used for furniture and cabinetmaking, boatbuilding and interior joinery. Logs are sliced for decorative veneers.
