Candlewood (Pterocelastrus tricuspidatus)

Distribution: Grows predominantly along the southern coastal regions of South Africa.

Timber Qualities: The timber is dark red-brown with fine concentric lighter rings. Candlewood is very heavy, hard and strong. Works with difficulty when using hand tools but machines well with power tools, the finished product being well worth the effort.

Uses: Used mainly in making smaller items like curios and for decorative purposes. Once well seasoned, slightly larger items are made like small coffee tables and general carpentry.
